PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University athletics is proud to announce that the new, official home venue of Pioneers men's and women's soccer is Highmark Stadium, the home stadium of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of USL PRO.

Point Park's men's and women's soccer teams will begin playing their home games at Highmark Stadium in the fall of 2013. The stadium will also be the official practice venue of the Pioneers, and both Point Park teams began their preseason training there earlier this week.

The Pioneers open their regular-season home schedules at Highmark Stadium on Sept. 5 versus West Liberty (7 p.m.) for the women's team and on Sept. 7 versus Ohio Valley (3 p.m.) for the men's team. Point Park has 10 men's home games and 10 women's home games scheduled at Highmark Stadium for the 2013 season.

Point Park fans are encouraged to attend the Pittsburgh Riverhounds' regular-season home finale this Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. versus the first-place Richmond Kickers. During halftime, the Point Park soccer teams will receive special recognition on the scoreboard. For Tickets, click here.

"We are ecstatic about our men's and women's soccer teams playing at Highmark Stadium," said Point Park Director of Athletics Dan Swalga. "The Point Park soccer teams and opponents will get to experience a state-of-the-art facility, play on a professional surface and enjoy a view of Downtown Pittsburgh that rivals PNC Park and Heinz Field, the other professional stadiums in town.

"Our students, faculty, staff and fans will be able to walk to the matches across the Smithfield Street Bridge, support our teams and help create a great atmosphere for college soccer. We couldn't be happier for our student-athletes, coaches and fans."

Built in the fall and winter of 2012-13 and officially opened on April 13, 2013 with the first Pittsburgh Riverhounds' game there, Highmark Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium located on Pittsburgh's South Side, directly across the Monongahela River from Point Park's Downtown Pittsburgh campus.

Highmark Stadium, which has an entire sideline open to the Pittsburgh skyline, offers a spectacular view that few professional stadiums can match. The 3,500-seat stadium has its seating and team benches facing the city with a large, electronic, video scoreboard on the opposite side.

Admission to Point Park soccer games at Highmark Stadium is free for all regular season games. Parking is available at the stadium with standard rates applying as the same as those for Riverhounds games.

The addition of Highmark Stadium as the official home of the Pioneers comes at a great time for Point Park soccer. The Point Park men's and women's soccer teams are both coming off their best seasons ever.

The Point Park men's soccer team qualified for its first-ever NAIA national tournament in 2012 as the champions of the KIAC Tournament. The Pioneers were 11-7-0 overall, 4-0-0 KIAC last year and are 23-12-1 (.652) the last two seasons. Head coach Jeroen Walstra is in his seventh season, and he is also an assistant coach in charge of the goalkeepers for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

The Point Park women's soccer team also had its best season in 2012 with a program record for wins at 10-8-1 overall. The Pioneers, who are entering just their ninth year as a varsity sport since debuting in 2005, also made the playoffs for the first time ever last year. The Pioneers reached the finals of the KIAC Tournament before falling one game shy of the NAIA national tournament. Head coach Maggie Kuhn begins her second year in 2013.

Point Park is a member of the NAIA and the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Both Point Park soccer teams will welcome teams from around the country and from NAIA, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III to Highmark Stadium this year.
