Featured Athlete

Oct. 11, 2011

Tayler Pugliese, a junior setter on the Point Park University volleyball team, is this week's Featured Athlete. A native of Ashtabula, Ohio, and a graduate of Lakeside High School, Pugliese is in her first year at Point Park after transferring from Notre Dame (OH).

Pugliese stepped right into the starting setter role for the Pioneers upon her arrival on campus. She has excelled in that role, and her control of the offense is a big reason why Point Park is 26-4 overall and 5-1 in the AMC.

In the NAIA weekly statistics released Oct. 10, Pugliese was leading the nation in total assists with 1,112 on the year. Also, her 11.01 assists per set were ranked eighth in the country.

Pugliese directs a Point Park attack that is fifth in the NAIA with 1,322 total kills, 15th in hitting percentage at .273 and 26th in kills per set at 13.22.

She spent two years at Notre Dame (OH) and was the starting setter last year. She was the Ashtabula County Player of the Year her final season of high school.
