WILMINGTON, Ohio -- The Point Park University women's cross country team had a strong showing at the 43-team Wilmington (Ohio) College Meet on Friday night, most notably beating all the other Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams that were in attendance.

Sophomore Kelsey Wilkins and freshman Katie Guarnaccia led the Point Park team and finished well ahead of any of the other individual runners from the KIAC. In all, there were five KIAC teams present, and Point Park's 15th-place team showing was the best of the group.

Rio Grande (Ohio) was 17th, Asbury (Ky.) placed 19th and Indiana East and Indiana Kokomo were 33rd and 37th, respectively to make up the KIAC schools in attendance.

Defending KIAC champion Brescia (Ky.), which has several returners, was not there, although Friday's meet provided a bit of a preview of the KIAC championship meet hosted by Point Park Nov. 8 (1:30 p.m.) at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh.

Wilkins had a time of 19:37 in the 5K, which placed 39th of the 413 runners in the race. Guarnaccia came in at 19:53 for 61st place. Guarnaccia was 17 seconds ahead of the next KIAC runner to cross the finish line.

Point Park's Hanka Jiraskova (20:36) was 113th overall and eighth among the KIAC runners. Teammate Ashley Czerniewski-Hagan (20:44) was 122nd overall and ninth of the KIAC contingent. Point Park's fifth runner was Emily Maxwell at 21:40 for a split of 2:03 between Point Park's scorers.

Katie Johnson (22:16) and Christina Wisniewski (22:54) were the next finishers for the Pioneers to give them a 3:17 split across their top seven performers. Also competing were McKenzie Wilson (24:15) and Alexis Sherman (25:07).

After Wilkins and Guarnaccia from Point Park, the next two finishers from the KIAC were Asbury's Katy Falkenberg (20:10) in 82nd place and Rio Grande's Brittany Piccone (20:14) in 88th place. Rio Grande had the next two KIAC finishers followed by a runner from Asbury.

Rio Grande had a split of 1:14 between its top five runners and 2:03 between its top seven finishers. Asbury had splits of 1:06 separating its top five and 2:07 separating its top seven.

Point Park's next competition is Oct. 25 at Lock Haven University of the Go Fast River Run. It is the final race before the KIAC championships Nov. 8 in Pittsburgh, which will serve as the NAIA national meet qualifier.
