PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University softball had three players named to the 2013 Capital One (R) Academic All-District College Division Softball First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) earlier this month.

Making the grade for Point Park (31-13, 22-6 KIAC) were senior third baseman/designated player Danielle Dorunda (3.77 GPA), senior left fielder Amanda Ardinger (3.65) and senior graduate student Kristen Zelenka (3.50), a starting pitcher.

Capital One (R) Academic All-District First Team selections must be nominated by a member of CoSIDA as a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 GPA. Nominees must also have at least one year at their current school. CoSIDA members vote on the nominees with academic and athletic performance taken into consideration.

Each academic all-district honoree will have their name forwarded to the ballot for Capital One (R) Academic All-American, which will be voted on and announced by CoSIDA on May 20, 2013.

Dorunda had the highest GPA on the team at 3.77 as a business management major. The senior third baseman/designated player is from Warren, Pa. Dorunda hit .294 with three home runs and 23 RBIs this year.

Ardinger majors in elementary education with a 3.65 GPA. The Pioneers' starting left fielder is a native of Moon Twp., Pa., and a graduate of Moon Area High School. As the No. 3 hitter in the lineup, Ardinger hit .368 with three homers and 27 RBIs as a senior.

Zelenka's 3.50 GPA is as a graduate student majoring in secondary education. The Washington, Pa., native and Trinity High School product was 9-4 with a 3.01 ERA in 81.1 innings pitched this year. She had 11 complete games in 13 starts.
