DANVILLE, Ky. -- Point Park University softball is in Danville, Ky., for the 2015 KIAC Softball Tournament, which will be held April 24-25 at Millenium Park.

Point Park (28-14, 21-7 KIAC) is the No. 2 seed in the eight-team, double-elimination event and faces No. 7 seed Midway (Ky.) (4-24, 3-23 KIAC) in the first round on April 24 at 12 p.m.

The Point Park-Midway winner advances to play the winner of No. 3 Rio Grande (27-14, 17-7 KIAC) vs. No. 6 Asbury (Ky.) (14-18, 10-14 KIAC) on April 24 at 4:30 p.m. With an opening loss, Point Park would play the Rio Grande-Asbury loser at 2:30 p.m.

The tournament features two playing fields and begins with the first two games April 24 at 10 a.m. A minimun of four victories is needed to win the tournament with the champion qualifying for the NAIA national championship.

No. 1 seed IU Southeast (26-5, 20-3 KIAC) plays No. 8 Alice Lloyd (Ky.) (1-26, 1-26 KIAC) at 10 a.m. The other 10 a.m. game features No. 4 Brescia (13-7 KIAC) vs. No. 5 Carlow (13-11 KIAC). The winners and losers of those games play in the next round.

The Pioneers earned the No. 2 seed by winning 21 of 28 KIAC games during the regular season. The Pioneers are the only team in the KIAC to complete all 28 games on their conference schedule. Point Park is the No. 2 seed for the third year in a row.

No. 1 seed IU Southeast took the KIAC regular season title and is the three-time defending champion. KIAC newcomer Rio Grande took the third seed and not being able to play a four-game series versus Brescia due to weather prevented it a chance to surpass Point Park for the No. 2 seed.

Point Park went 9-3 against teams in its half of the bracket with a 4-0 record versus first-round opponent Midway (Ky.) and also Asbury. The Pioneers went 1-3 versus potential second-round foe Rio Grande. Point Park went 2-2 versus tournament favorite IU Southeast and won three of four games versus Brescia and Carlow, the other top teams on the opposite side of the bracket.

Point Park's success has been built on offense this year as it ranks 15th in the NAIA with 9.9 hits per game and 16th nationally with 7.4 runs per game. Both of those are second in the KIAC to IU Southeast, as is the team batting average of .345, which is 23rd in the country. Point Park has six starters hitting over .328 on the year and has hit 39 home runs in 42 games.

The pitching staff has been the 1-2 punch of senior Kate Reese (12-8, 3.68 ERA) and junior Hannah Harley (11-3, 3.45 ERA). Senior Megan Dyer (1-2, 3.15 ERA) has gained health from an injury that kept her out since early March. The Pioneers are fourth in the KIAC with a team ERA of 3.53 and are third in the conference with a team fielding percentage of .956.
