Pioneers win three times on Day 1 in Clearwater, tie season high for consecutive wins

Oct. 7, 2011

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Point Park University volleyball team won three times Friday on Day 1 of the Clearwater Christian Tournament to run its winning streak to nine matches. The consecutive wins streak ties a season high set last month.

The Pioneers improved to 24-4 overall by coming away with 3-0 sweeps over Florida Christian, Northwood (Fla.) and Ave Maria (Fla.). Point Park concludes the event with two matches Saturday -- versus Grace (11:30 a.m.) and at Clearwater Christian (1:30 p.m.) -- before traveling back to campus.

Point Park used plenty of backups and still had an easy time with Florida Christian, 25-11, 25-15, 25-11. The Pioneers got a bit of an uprising from Northwood in the second set but otherwise cruised, 25-15, 25-20, 25-7. Point Park topped Ave Maria, 25-11, 25-18, 25-14 with another deep rotation of players.

Ashley Campbell totaled 10 kills versus Florida Christian, and Bridgette Jones had nine. Versus Northwood, Lindsey Oberacker and Brittany Lhota had 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Tayler Pugliese added 35 assists, five aces, six digs and three blocks in that match.

Versus Ave Maria, Nicole Wurstle totaled five kills and seven blocks. Lhota turned in nine kills and three blocks. Alyssa Hall picked up 18 digs.
