Lindsey Oberacker named Capital One Academic All-District First Team by CoSIDA

Nov. 10, 2011

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University outside hitter Lindsey Oberacker has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Volleyball First Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America and announced today (Nov. 10).

Oberacker is a junior outside hitter from Erie, Pa., who carries a 3.94 GPA as a biology major. The likely American Mideast Conference Player of the Year and NAIA All-American candidate has a career-high 526 kills and is hitting an impressive .325 this year.

The Capital One Academic All-District squads recognize the top student-athletes who not only perform well on the court, but also in the classroom. Playing credentials and academic performance are taken into account when CoSIDA members cast their votes. Oberacker was chosen to the First Team in the College Division, which is reserved for NAIA, Canadian and Junior Colleges.

Oberacker will be an All-AMC selection for the third time in her career when those awards are announced next week. As a sophomore last year, she was named AVCA-NAIA All-Region.

For her career, the McDowell High School product has 1,426 kills, 687 digs and 258 blocks and is hitting .301. She has career highs of 347 digs and 107 blocks this year, the first in which she is playing every rotation.

Oberacker led the Pioneers (35-5) to the AMC Tournament Championship Nov. 8 when she had a combined 32 kills in the semifinals and finals. She had 18 kills and 12 digs in the championship match versus Daemen.

Point Park will host Holy Names (Cailf.) in the Unaffiliated Group (AMC/Cal-Pac) championship match Nov. 12 with the winner advancing to the NAIA national tournament. The match starts at 4 p.m. in the Student Center Gym.
