Point Park beats Pitt-Johnstown, 3-0, in non-conference roach match

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Point Park University dispatched Pitt-Johnstown, 3-0, in a non-conference volleyball road match Tuesday night. The Pioneers won, 25-21, 25-16, 25-16 to improve to 23-6 overall.

Point Park upped its record to 8-1 versus NCAA Division II teams with the victory over the Mountain Cats (13-7).

Junior right-side hitter Nicole Wurstle, from Valley City, Ohio, hit an amazing .842 with 16 kills and no errors in 19 attempts. She also added two blocks.

Other big point scorers for the Pioneers were senior outside hitter Lindsey Oberacker with nine kills and 10 digs, and senior middle hitter Livia Caluori with seven kills, four blocks and three aces. Libero Margaret Gillooly handled most of the defense with 25 digs.

Point Park held UPJ to a very low hitting percentage of 0.35 and only 25 total kills for the match.

The Pioneers' next competition will be their toughest test of the season to date. Point Park visits the Georgetown (Ky.) College Tournament Oct. 26-27 where they will face NAIA No. 5 Lee (Tenn.), No. 11 Georgetown (Ky.), RV Taylor (Ind.) and Indiana Tech.
