Point Park women's golf places 2nd at Westminster, Palmberg medalist

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Point Park University women's golf placed second at the Westminster Invitational on Saturday at New Castle Country Club, and it was senior Karina Palmberg who won medalist honors by six shots with an 82.

Palmberg is a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and she led Point Park to a team score of 387. Team champion Grove City also shot 387 but edged Point Park on a scorecard tiebreaker.

Point Park and Grove City were three shots clear of third-place Washington & Jefferson at 390, which was followed by Hiram (397), St. Vincent (414) and host Westminster (421).

Emily Slifka shot 92 to place fifth for Point Park. Chloe Callison tied for 15th at 102 followed by Rilyn Gancia at 111 to round out the Point Park players.

Point Park's next event is the Unaffiliated Group Tournament May 5-6 in Athens, Ala., with the winner qualifying for the NAIA national tournament.
