Point Park University women’s soccer will host its Kick Cancer Game on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011 vs. Walsh. Game time is 1 p.m. at the Pioneers' home field, Founders Field in Cheswick, Pa. The game is part of a nationwide project to raise money and awareness for the National Foundation for Cancer Research.

This effort is a collaborative project with Walsh University. The teams will host Kick Cancer Games during their home-and-home series this year. When Point Park visits Walsh Oct. 18, that will be a Kick Cancer Game as well.

“We are excited to be a part of NFCR’s Kick Cancer Team and support NFCR in their pursuit of a cure,” said Point Park head coach Mark Platts,  “Everyone has been affected by cancer in one way or another, and we’re hoping to not only raise funds but also raise awareness about the importance of cancer research.”

To raise funds, the team will be selling t-shirts at the game as well as accepting general donations online. To contribute, please click here.

Point Park will be raising money in various ways. While there is no admission price set, a donation is encouraged. There will also be T-Shirts on sale (model pictured below) for a $15 donation. There will also be money raised through food and beverage concessions.

For more information about Point Park’s involvement with the campaign, please contact Mark Platts at mplatts@pointpark.edu or 412-392-3814. To find out more about “NFCR’s Kick Cancer Team” or to participate, please visit www.nfcr.org/kickcancerteam.

About the National Foundation for Cancer Research

The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) is a leading charity dedicated to funding cancer research and public education relating to cancer prevention, earlier diagnosis, better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for cancer. NFCR promotes and facilitates collaboration among scientists to accelerate the pace of discovery from bench to bedside.

Since 1973, NFCR has provided over $288 million in direct support of discovery-oriented cancer research focused on understanding how and why cells become cancerous, and on public education relating to cancer prevention, detection, and treatment.  NFCR scientists are discovering cancer’s molecular mysteries and translating these discoveries into therapies that hold the hope for curing cancer. NFCR is about Research for a Cure—cures for all types of cancer.  For more information, please visit www.NFCR.org.

The Point Park University women’s soccer team is participating in a nationwide fundraiser from the National Foundation for Cancer Research called “NFCR’s Kick Cancer Team.” The campaign invites soccer teams around the country to participate by committing to donate proceeds from at least one game or special event to the NFCR.
