ST. CATHARINE, Ky. -- Point Park University built a 2-0, halftime lead on its way to a 3-1 victory at St. Catharine (Ky.) in an NAIA, non-conference women's soccer game on Friday.

Point Park (8-8, 3-1 KIAC) won for the sixth time in its last seven games to continue its climb all the way back from a 2-7 start versus a brutal, non-conference schedule early in the year.

Junior defender Jasmine Meichle, from England, scored on a corner kick in the 6th minute as Point Park took the early lead over St. Catharine (3-8-1, 1-4 Mid-South Conf.). Meichle took the corner kick herself, and it went in for the goal.

With 10 minutes left in the first half, Alyson Joyce, from Medina, Ohio, took Erin Gilmartin's through ball and finished it off for the 2-0 lead.

St. Catharine got back into the game with Courtney Anderson's strike in the 52nd minute, but the Pioneers came back with Leeza Tokarski's goal three minutes later. Tokarski's second goal in the last three games was assisted by Paige Manning.

Point Park held a 13-7 advantage in shots and was up, 7-3, in shots for the first half. Only three of St. Catharine's shots were on goal compared to eight for the Pioneers. Meichle's goal came on one of Point Park's seven corner kicks.

Erica Roney made two saves in 90 minutes as the Point Park goalkeeper.

Point Park's weekend road trip continues Saturday with a KIAC game at Brescia (Ky.) (0-15, 0-5 KIAC). Kickoff is 4 p.m. CT.
