Downtown Pittsburgh is buzzing with great new restaurants these days. One of the newest spots, Hundred Wood, is aiming to become a favorite gathering spot for the students, faculty and staff of Point Park.
A new gastro-pub serving locally sourced food and beer, Hundred Wood opened its doors this summer in the heart of campus next to the Village Park.
Named for its location at 100 Wood St., Hundred Wood began operations with outside grilling on the plaza in July. The restaurant is owned by Dennis and Melody Scott, longtime restaurant operators and owners of the popular Market St. Deli Co. & Asiago Express at the PPG Place food court, which closed its doors last spring.
Fresh Food Combined with Comfort
“We’re thrilled to be a part of the Point Park community,” said Dennis Scott. “Our goal is to provide students, faculty and downtown workers a place for delicious, fresh food in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.”
Located in the space formerly occupied by Osteria 100, Hundred Wood features take-out and dining-in service, with outdoor grilling and patio seating when weather permits. The Scotts are committed to serving locally sourced food as much as possible, and have developed close relationships with local suppliers.
“The Scotts’ hardworking commitment to their business, along with their energetic advocacy for Downtown, makes them a great match to our campus community,” said Point Park President Paul Hennigan.
Talent on the Menu
Hundred Wood features an assortment of locally brewed draft beer in stainless steel barware, with all other non-draft beers served in aluminum cans for optimum recycling benefits. They also serve draft wine, a relatively new beverage option that allows wine to stay fresher, and eliminates the needs for glass bottles. The couple’s commitment to sustainability extends to the restaurant’s furnishings, which will include tables and chairs made in the USA from reclaimed lumber that will blend with the existing exposed brick, cork flooring and barn wood.
“We want Hundred Wood to be a place where live music, poetry readings and even improv nights will not only attract but feature the talented, creative, and artistic students of the University,” said Scott. Plans also include a wall that will feature University arts, sports and academic memorabilia.
Hundred Wood is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and until midnight Thursday through Saturday, serving lunch and light dinners. The menu features food priced to attract students, faculty, office workers and downtown residents. The restaurant also caters special events, meetings or other gatherings.
