Scholarships - Spring (January) 2010 Applicants

All scholarships listed are for new, incoming full-time freshman and transfer applicants (12 to 18 credits per semester non-accelerated).  There is not a separate application process to be considered for scholarships.

External Scholarships and Awards

In addition to these scholarships and awards, many Point Park University students receive funding from external sources. Students are encouraged to seek out private funding on their own. Funding from external sources does not reduce or affect any awarded institutional aid.

The Academic Scholarship

Freshmen applicants…

  • Can be awarded $3,500 to $7,500 per academic year. 
  • The full amount of the scholarship ($14,000 to $30,000) is distributed equally over four years of study. 

Freshmen applicants must meet the two of the three following criteria to be considered for an Academic Scholarship:

  • A 3.0 high school grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in a college preparatory curriculum
  • A minimum 1500 SAT, or 21 ACT composite score
  • Class rank in the upper quarter of their senior class. (If the secondary school does not have a class ranking system, an individual evaluation of the student’s transcript will be used to determine scholarship eligibility.)

Transfer applicants…

  • Can be awarded $3,500 to $7,500 per academic year
  • Must have a cumulative 3.0 college grade point average to be eligible
  • The Academic Scholarship is awarded throughout the completion of the undergraduate degree program.

Academic Scholarship Conditions

Students must be enrolled as full-time student (12 to 18 credits per semester) and maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average throughout the completion of their undergraduate studies to retain the Academic Scholarship.

Community Service and Leadership Award

The Community Service and Leadership Award is awarded on the basis of a strong record of involvement or leadership in school or community service activities.

Freshmen applicants…

  • Can be awarded $500 to $3,000 per academic year. 
  • The full amount of the scholarship ($2,000 to $12,000) is distributed equally over four years of study. 

Transfer applicants…

  • Are awarded $500 to $3,000 per academic year throughout the completion of the undergraduate program.

Community Service and Leadership Award Conditions

Students must be enrolled as full-time student (12 to 18 credits per semester) throughout the completion of their undergraduate studies to retain the Community Service and Leadership Award.

Conservatory of Performing Arts Talent Awards

The Conservatory of Performing Arts offers apprenticeships and scholarships ranging from $500 to $10,000 per academic year. The applicant's audition or interview is used as criteria for awarding a Conservatory Department scholarship. 

Talent Award Conditions

Students must be enrolled full-time (12 to 18 credits per semester) maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average  throughout the completion of their undergraduate studies to retain the scholarship.

Pioneer Transfer Grant

Transfer applicants are awarded $2,500 per academic year if the applicant has 60 credits or an associate’s degree from the following eligible any community college in Pennsylvania, across the country or any of the following Pittsburgh area community colleges or technical schools:

  • Community College of Allegheny County
  • Community College of Beaver County
  • Westmoreland County Community College
  • Butler County Community College
  • Kaplan Career Institute
  • Pittsburgh Technical Institute
  • Triangle Technical Institute

Pioneer Transfer Grant Conditions

Students must be enrolled as full-time student (12 to 18 credits per semester) throughout the completion of their undergraduate studies to retain the Pioneer Transfer Grant.

Department Scholarships

New, incoming full-time undergraduate students may be eligible for department scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 per academic year.

Athletic Awards

Point Park University is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and is able to offer athletic awards to student athletes. Player selection and award amounts are dependent upon the decision of the coach of the individual sport.

Alumni Family Award

Alumni Family Awards are awarded to dependent children of a Point Park University alumnus/alumna in the amount of $2,000 per academic year. Students should indicate on their application for admission where appropriate that their parent(s) is a Point Park University alumnus/alumna.

Sibling Award

Families who have two or more students attending Point Park University at the same time are eligible to receive a $1,500 per year Sibling Award for those periods of enrollment where multiple family members are enrolled at Point Park University.

HOBY (Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation) Scholarship

Students recognized by the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation receive $1,000 per year.

NEED Foundation Scholarship

Point Park University, in conjunction with the Negro Education Emergency Drive (NEED) Foundation, funds scholarships to students with extreme financial need.  Incoming freshman who have graduated from a city of Pittsburgh high school are automatically awarded $500 per year.

Outstanding Young Women Scholarship

Students recognized as outstanding young women by county receive $1,000 per year.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

Transfer applicants recognized for academic excellence by Phi Theta Kappa who have attained a 3.5 college GPA receive $2,000 per year.

Scouting Award

A $1,000 per academic year Eagle Scout or Girl Scout Gold award is awarded to applicants who are members of Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts of America.

Endowed Scholarships

Endowed scholarships are those set up by friends and alumni of Point Park University.  Endowed scholarships are available for new, incoming full-time undergraduate students.  Visit Endowed Scholarships to learn more.
