Background
Archish Maharaja, Ed.D., joined the School of Business at Point Park University as an adjunct faculty member in 2000 and is now an assistant professor of business management in the Master of Business Administration program. In Sept. 2010, Maharaja was appointed as the director of the M.B.A. program. He has diversified professional experience, from working at a Fortune 500 company and several smaller accounting and medical businesses to forming his own CPA and consulting firm concerned primarily with physician practices. His industry experience includes working as a purchasing manager and accountant, serving as a financial advisor on a corporate and personal level, and being employed as a healthcare administrator and physician practice manager. He currently provides consulting and management services to individual and multi specialty physician practices, as well as larger healthcare entities.
His research activities are concentrated in healthcare administration and management and information technology as it applies to healthcare. His doctoral dissertation topic was "The Use of Electronic Health Records in Medical Practices" with a goal of analyzing and promoting the use of information technology by physicians. Currently, he is in the process of writing and publishing articles on the adoption and use of electronic health records. His research extends to healthcare organizations concerned with policy management and administration, and he actively participates in professional healthcare management programs in addition to serving as an eager volunteer in organizations that benefit his community.

- Participated in panel discussion at Duquesne University on "How to Start Your Business." Maharaja shared his advice on starting a business, managing finances and creating and maintaining accounting records. He also provided some valuable insight into operating and sustaining a profitable business.
- Presented four papers (co-authored with three Point Park University School of Business faculty members) at the 17th Annual International Conference on Advances in Management, held July, 2010 in Atlanta, Ga. The papers were on the topics "Exploring the Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Styles of Management in Multinational Corporations," "Knowledge Creation in Multinational Corporations," "Can Educating Physicians Increase the Adoption Rate of Electronic Health Records?" and "Strategies for Physicians to Remain Independent from Hospital Systems." Maharaja was also a chair for the track “Improving Effectiveness of Health Care" at the conference and for the second year in a row, he was elected as trustee for the conference held the following year in Cancun, Mexico.
