How did you land an internship with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra?
It's a funny story actually! I posted on my Twitter page that I was looking for an internship for the fall and SAEM student Elizabeth Birdsell found this internship for me. It sounded perfect so I applied, interviewed and got it!
What made you choose Point Park’s SAEM program?
I was originally a psychology major but realized that I didn’t want to do that for the rest of my life. I knew I wanted to do something fun and fast-paced so I chose this program and I am so happy that I did.
What are your key responsibilities as a marketing intern?
My key responsibilities include sending out donation requests, updating and commenting on the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's social media pages and helping out with whatever shows I can. In addition to this, I am working on the media plans for the Family Holiday Pops show. This has been such a great opportunity to learn about media buying, and creating ads for print and radio!
What lessons have you learned so far?
The most important lesson I have learned so far is to network. Although Pittsburgh is a big city, most of the people within it know each other. Word-of-mouth can be a great thing, or it can be your worst nightmare in this industry so I guess another lesson I have learned is to always do your best and ask what you can do to help. Being eager to learn and to contribute are qualities that internship supervisors and potential bosses love!
What are your future career goals?
I would love to work in social media or in the marketing department of a company or nonprofit. The world of social media thrills me and I hope that I can spend my life doing something that I truly love.
