Students in the sport, arts and entertainment (SAEM) program recently hosted a panel of professionals who discussed their experiences working for the new Consol Energy Center and one of Pittsburgh’s top sports franchises – the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The panel discussion was held at Point Park University’s JVH auditorium, where panelists David Peart, Tom McMillan, Jason Varnish and Tony Warywoda covered topics such as naming rights, sponsors, public relations, box office and event management operations.

"I was happy to hear that two of the speakers (David Peart and Tom McMillan) graduated from Point Park University,” said Timothy Edmunds. “It was interesting that Mr. McMillan always wanted to be a sports writer but ended up working in a variety of areas including radio, television, public relations and magazines,” he added.
Ashley Morran enjoyed hearing the panelists talk about their day-to-day job responsibilities and their comparisons between the Mellon Arena and Consol Energy Center. For Brea Magnone, the Consol Energy Center panelists were her favorite speakers so far this year.
“Bringing in these four speakers was one of the best opportunities that I have encountered being in the SAEM program,” remarked Raymond Pritchard.
