Portfolio and Interview FAQs

What should my portfolio include?

Portfolio contents are listed here. However, the Admissions Committee highly values creative writing samples because creative writing samples tend to tell a lot about the prospective student.

I have very limited film/video/cinema background.  What else can I submit?

We encourage you to submit any work that reflects/demonstrates your creative ability. Relevant creative work can include, but is not limited to: film/video materials, music, photography, acting, creative writing, painting, and digital animation.

When and where should I submit my portfolio?

Portfolios can be submitted at any time once your application for admissions has been submitted. You DO NOT have to be academically accepted into the University before you submit your portfolio. Please do not submit original material, as sample work will not be returned.

Please email portfolio materials to: portfoliosubmissions@pointpark.edu

  • All materials should be submitted in Word or PDF format
  • File size should not exceed 10MB
  • PLEASE DO NOT SEND VIDEO FILES BY EMAIL - they are too large, and we won't receive them! If you would like to include video work in your portfolio, please upload to YouTube / Vimeo or similar and include the link in your email.

You may also submit portfolio materials via regular mail to:

Cinema & Digital Arts Portfolio Review
ATTN: Bonnie Sampson
Point Park University
Conservatory of Performing Arts
201 Wood St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Will I receive notification that my portfolio has been received?

The Cinema & Digital Arts Department contacts applicants within three to five working days of receipt of the portfolio. Please contact Bonnie Sampson at (412) 392-6133 or via email bsampson@pointpark.edu if you have not received acknowledgement of receipt.

How do I arrange my interview?

After your portfolio has been submitted and reviewed, the Cinema & Digital Arts department will contact you to schedule an interview. The portfolio review may take four to six weeks.

If you are attending an open house at Point Park, you are eligible to schedule an interview during your time on campus. To schedule an interview during an open house, RSVP to an upcoming session and then email Bonnie Sampson at bsampson@pointpark.edu to schedule the interview.

Should I bring anything to the interview?

You do not need to bring additional materials unless requested to do so.

What will be addressed during the interview?

The interview is to determine if your creative ambitions are compatible with the Cinema Production, Screenwriting or Digital Arts program. It will also provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the program.

After I've interviewed, when can I expect to receive my artistic admittance decision?

Upon interviewing, applicants WILL NOT receive their artistic admittance decision until they have received an academic admissions decision from the Office of Admissions. Once the academic admissions decision has been processed, the artistic admittance decision will be released and mailed to the applicant. If you have already interviewed and have not received your academic admissions decision, please check your PointWeb Account to see what application items are still needed for an admissions decision to be made.
