Conservatory Student Performs at Obama Rally

Point Park University Conservatory of Performing Arts Senior Chosen to Open Obama Rally with National Anthem

Caroline Nicolian, a senior musical theatre major in Point Park University's Conservatory of Performing Arts, was selected to perform the national anthem at the rally for Senator Barack Obama at Mellon Arena on Monday, Oct. 27.

Sandy Ball, coordinator of accompanists for Point Park's Conservatory and Obama campaign volunteer, helped to facilitate the engagement.  Through her volunteer efforts, Ball was asked by Obama staffers if she could recommend a student from the Conservatory to sing the national anthem to kick off today's rally.  Ball, with the aid of Conservatory of Performing Arts faculty, selected Nicolian from among over 280 theatre students in the Conservatory.  Nicolian most recently played the critically-acclaimed lead role of La Mome Pistache in the Point Park University Conservatory Theatre Company production of the musical Can-Can, which just closed at the Pittsburgh Playhouse on Sunday, Oct. 26.

Point Park University's acclaimed Conservatory of Performing Arts is dedicated to a conservatory approach to training.
