The Arts Scene in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh boasts a rich and wonderfully diverse arts scene, home to such great artists as Andy Warhol, August Wilson, Stephen Foster and Gene Kelly, just to name a few. Our campus sits just minutes from the Cultural District. In addition, there are over 14 new cultural facilities within the district, including the newly opened August Wilson Center for African American Culture. No matter what you’re looking for, if Point Park is your home, you can find it in your own backyard.

Pittsburgh has a thriving theatre community with 2 LORT houses, 1 CORST house, 3 SPT houses, plus 3 pro summer theatres within a one-hour drive. There is also a Pittsburgh Special Appearance contract (min. $175 & pension) that other theatres regularly take advantage of. There is print, commercial and voice-over work as well as film. Many students take advantage of these opportunities to add to their resumes. This semester, 2 students appeared in the first Rep show, 2 appeared in a show at the Pittsburgh Public Theatre and 2 for the Pittsburgh Irish & Classical Theatre.
