Programs and Degrees
The Department of Natural Sciences and Engineering Technology at Point Park University offers baccalaureate and associate degree programs in Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. These programs include a comprehensive curriculum of exciting and challenging engineering technology courses built on a foundation of the liberal arts and sciences.
Graduates of Point Park’s engineering technology programs occupy numerous and important positions throughout the region in every aspect of the engineering enterprise. Our baccalaureate programs, which are fully accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET (www.abet.org), prepares graduates to enter professional careers, to pursue licensure as professional engineers, and to enter graduate school in a variety of disciplines. Our associate programs prepare graduates to enter para-professional positions immediately and to complete a baccalaureate degree in the future if they desire.
Classroom and Laboratory Experiences
Point Park’s engineering technology programs stress hands-on laboratory activities that complement and enhance the strong theoretical foundation of the curriculum. Students are able to work with equipment that equals or exceeds that found in the workplace, giving them the practical experience that employers value.
This emphasis on the application of knowledge in real-world settings is a strength of engineering technology programs, making them a good choice for many students who may be considering a traditional engineering program for their undergraduate education. Courses are taught by full-time faculty and staff or by highly qualified practicing engineers with specialized industrial knowledge. Personalized education is one of the department’s most important objectives and small class sizes, for both lectures and laboratories, ensure that each student has the chance to optimize his or her educational opportunities.
Whether in the classroom or the laboratory, students benefit from dedicated professionals who build on their students’ individual backgrounds to prepare them for the real demands of the workplace.
