Christopher Rolinson

Assistant Professor of Photography and Photojournalism

Christopher Rolinson joined Point Park as a full-time faculty member in the fall of 2006. He teaches photography and photojournalism courses and employs a hands-on teaching approach that enables students to build polished portfolios for professional employment.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in art from Slippery Rock University in 2000 and his master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from Point Park University in 2004.

Rolinson began his career as photojournalist at the Steubenville, Ohio Herald-Star. He has since started his own freelance photography company, StartPoint Media, Inc., whose clients include the Associated Press, Washington Post, as well as other local and national publications.

He has introduced new courses, collaborations and partnerships to expand and diversify the photojournalism program. Collaborating with the CMU CREATE lab, Rolinson has helped develop a system of photographic reportage through the use of the GigaPan photographic system. He also has facilitated Heart Gallery exhibitions in partnership with the Three Rivers Adoption Council.  In partnership with the Father Ryan Arts Center, Rolinson coordinated a travelling exhibition that featured student work centered on the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

In October 2009, Rolinson released his book Our State Parks: Western Pennsylvania. The book details the wilds and beauty of Pennsylvania’s state parks through photographs and text.

His Domestic photographic expeditions have included the inauguration of President Barack Obama, The G20 Pittsburgh Summit, Amistad National Recreation Area Artist-in-Residency. International expeditions have taken him to document the aftermath of war in Kosovo and Serbia and the ongoing transition to capitalism and democracy in Hungary and Slovakia.

He is a member of the Pittsburgh Press Club, American Legion, National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), The Society of Photographic Education (SPE) and the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), in which he is the treasurer of the Pittsburgh chapter.

Chris, his wife Cara and sons Maxwell and Andrew reside in Coraopolis.
