Associate Professor of Multimedia

Heather Starr Fiedler, Ph.D. is an associate professor of multimedia. She specializes in new and emerging media technology and especially online journalism. Prior to coming to Point Park in 2000, she taught business and computer science at West Virginia Northern Community College, communications at Robert Morris University and was the director of training for Gateway Computers in Pittsburgh. Fiedler holds a Ph.D. in educational technology from Nova Southeastern University, a master’s in communications from the University of Albany and a bachelor’s in business and broadcast journalism from Buffalo State College.
Fiedler’s classes include online journalism, multimedia design, web publication, print design, citizen journalism, social media and magazine writing and design.
She is also the coordinator of the University Experience program, the first-year experience course for incoming freshmen.
In addition, she developed and oversees the Globe Online, the online student newspaper. She is also the founder and general manager of PittsburghMom.com, a website for Pittsburgh-area parents, which is now owned by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Because of her work with PittsburghMom.com, she was selected as one of "Pittsburgh's 40 Under 40" by Pittsburgh Magazine and PUMP in November 2009 and honored as one of 14 "Women in Media" by the Women & Girls Foundation of Western Pennsylvania in 2010. She also has her own freelance design business where she specializes in announcements and invitations. She lives in Cheswick with her husband and two sons Matthew and Benjamin.
