Associate Professor of Advertising and PR
Johan Yssel, Ph.D., associate professor of advertising and program director of Integrated Marketing Communications, joined the faculty at Point Park University in 2008. He brings to the classroom a rare and sought-after combination of practical and teaching experience, as well as terminal academic qualifications.
He has advised several student organizations, preparing members for student competitions and is the only adviser in the United States whose students have won the Citibank Competition and placed second in the AAF NSAC.
Yssel has taught various advertising and PR courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Undergraduate classes he has taught include: Introduction to Mass Communication; Introduction to Mass Media; Introduction to Ad/PR; Ad/PR writing; Ad Competition; Marketing Communications; Principles of Advertising; Advertising Copywriting; Basic Media Writing & Advertising; Principles of Advertising; Creative Advertising Strategies; Broadcast Advertising; Advertising Campaigns; Advertising Copywriting and Layout; Advanced Copywriting Advertising Case Studies and Advertising Campaigns. At the graduate level he taught: Advertising Theory, Strategic Analysis of TV Commercials, International Advertising, Advertising Research, Consumer Behavior. Creativity; Ad/PR Management; Advertising Theory and Practice.
He has taught at several tertiary institutions and his research was published in national and international journals. Research topics include advertising strategy and international advertising. He was also awarded the top teaching paper at the AEJMC convention.
Yssel has served on several committees at the departmental, school and university level.
