The journalism and mass communication major at Point Park is rooted in hands-on learning opportunities and offers courses taught by professors with real-world experience.
Students can see their work published through the Innocence Institute, Point Park News Service, and a wide variety of student media organizations. Students can also find internships at many area companies and media organizations, and they can join the campus chapters of professional organizations like the Society of Professional Journalists.
Students in the journalism and mass communication major choose either a concentration in Journalism or a concentration in Mass Communication.
If you choose the journalism concentration, you're in for some intense classes in writing, editing, reporting and interviewing. You will learn to write on deadline in courses that cover all aspects of journalism - such as feature writing, magazine writing and investigative reporting.
If you choose the mass communication concentration, you will take a wide variety of journalism and mass communication courses that will add flexibility and depth to your degree. You'll have courses in print journalism, broadcasting, and advertising and public relations, as well as digital media and photography. It's appropriate for transfer students who took courses at communication and media studies programs at other universities.
