'Our Son Had His Heart Set on Point Park'
Read one parent's account about how Point Park University helped her family find financial aid after household job loss.
“When I lost my job in October 2008, our lives changed drastically. I have always worked, and our lifestyle was based upon two incomes.
"Our son had his heart set on attending Point Park University, and we weren’t sure if we could make it happen. We knew nothing about financial aid; we had paid for our daughter’s schooling outright. I was hesitant to contact the financial aid office, because I felt there were so many more deserving people. But it was our only shot at attaining our son's dream.
"My first call to the financial aid office calmed all my fears. I spoke with a counselor initially who was incredibly helpful and pushed the paperwork through because of my ignorance regarding deadlines. For the last two years I have been working with another counselor, who has become a friend. She understands our situation and offers guidance and/or modifications that allow our son to continue to matriculate.
"He would not have been able to attend the University without the compassion and professionalism of this dedicated group, who has one focus: to ensure that your child receives the most important gift, a world-class education. Our son will be graduating in 2012, and he could not have done it without the ‘aid’ of this department.”
