A Two-Step Application Process

and Applying to the Conservatory

Step 1:

Submit your Application for Admissions

• Submit an application for admissions BEFORE scheduling an audition or interview or submitting a portfolio.  Apply Online Free!  Early application submission is strongly recommended.
• You DO NOT have to be academically accepted into the University prior to your audition or interview or portfolio submission.
• Official transcripts and test scores DO NOT have to be on file prior to your audition or interview or portfolio submission.

Step 2:

Schedule your Audition/Interview or Submit Portfolio

A Two-Step Admittance Process

Conservatory applicants receive two separate admittance decisions:

1. An academic admissions decision into the University, and
2. An artistic Conservatory decision into the program of study. 

These decisions are made sent and received separately.  With the exception of artistic denial, the artistic acceptance decision is withheld until the candidate has received his or her academic acceptance decision from the University's Office of Admissions. 

• Applicants not artistically accepted into their Conservatory program of choice but academically accepted for admissions into the University can attend Point Park for a different major. 

• Applicants artistically accepted into their Conservatory program of choice but academically denied for admissions into the University cannot attend Point Park.

Double Majoring and Minoring

Freshmen

• Can declare a double major or minor in most areas of study during their second semester.  Students can then begin taking classes in that area of study beginning their sophomore year.
• Dance and theatre arts double majors or minors must audition for artistic acceptance into the program. 

Transfers

• Can declare a double major or minor in most areas of study during their first semester.  Students can then begin taking classes in that area of study beginning in their second semester.
• Dance and theatre arts double majors or minors must audition for artistic acceptance into the program. 

Conservatory Program Double Majoring or
Minoring Exceptions and Restrictions

• The cinema production program is NOT available as a minor.  A minor in cinema studies IS available
• It is NOT recommended that theatre arts students double major due to the intensity of the program.
• A musical theatre minor is reserved and only allowed for students majoring in dance.  Students in other programs (Conservatory or all other majors) are NOT permitted to minor in musical theatre.

Receiving your Audition or Interview Results

With the exception of artistic denial, the artistic acceptance decision is withheld until the candidate has received his or her academic acceptance decision from the University's Office of Admissions. 

Once the academic admissions decision has been processed, the artistic admittance decision will be released and mailed to the applicant.

Audition Statistics

Dance

• Over 700 applicants audition for the dance program each year.

• The average incoming class is 90 students among all three concentrations.  The approximate/average breakdown for enrolled students is as follows:

Theatre Arts

• Over 800 applicants audition or interview for the theatre arts program each year.

• The average incoming class is 100 students among all four concentrations.  The approximate/average breakdown for enrolled students is as follows:

  • 45 musical theatre
  • 35 acting
  • 10 stage management
  • 10 technical theatre/design
