What is a G.E.D. Applicant?

A G.E.D. applicant is one who did not finish high school and opted to take the General Educational Development test. The G.E.D. is sometimes referred to as a General Equivalency Diploma or General Education Diploma.

What application should I complete?

  • If you have not attended any post-secondary institutions since leaving high school and earning your G.E.D., complete the freshman application.
  • If you have earned your G.E.D. and have attended a post-secondary institution, complete the transfer application.

Application Requirements

Freshman Applicants

  1. Official G.E.D. test results. Because the G.E.D. is a pass/fail exam, there is no required minimum score.
  2. Official SAT OR ACT results if it has been five years or less since taking the G.E.D. exam.
  3. A personal essay (optional) (refer to the Personal Essay page for further instruction)

Transfer Applicants

  1. Official G.E.D. test results. Because the G.E.D. is a pass/fail exam, there is no required minimum score.
  2. Official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities attended. Transcript data from previous institutions
    attended that are printed on the most recently attended institution's transcript is not accepted.
  3. A personal essay (optional) (refer to the Personal Essay page for further instruction)

Official Transcripts/Test Results

  • Have an authorized signature
  • Are mailed to Point Park by the issuing institution

Unofficial Transcripts/Test Results:

  • If applicable, is transcript data from previous institutions printed on the transcript from the most recently attended institution (transfer applicants only)
  • Are photocopies or scanned copies
  • Have been faxed or scanned and e-mailed
  • Are self-reported scores
  • Do not have an authorized signature
  • Are mailed to Point Park by someone other than the issuing institution

Hand-Delivering Required Documents

If the applicant hand delivers any of these documents directly to the Office of Admissions, they must be in the issuing institution's sealed envelope.
