ST. LOUIS, MO. – Point Park University competitive cheer and dance appeared in the first competitions as varsity sports at the Missouri Baptist University Spartan Showcase Friday. The dance team placed second of eight schools in the competition, and the cheer team came in fifth. FULL STORY

Two Teams, One Family

Starting this fall, Point Park will offer Competitive Cheer and Dance teams as part of its varsity sport program. The new squads will have an affiliation with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and compete as an invitational sport. Athletic scholarships will be available. The two teams will operate under one program with a coaching staff highly experienced in competitive cheer and dance. Students interested in competing for Point Park’s Competitive Cheer and Dance teams should complete the Prospective Athlete Questionnaire, specifying Cheer and Dance as the interested sport(s).

Point Park Cheerleading Squad

The Point Park Cheerleading Squad is a
co-ed varsity sport. The squad performs at all home basketball games and competes in the NAIA as well as other collegiate cheer competitions. Cheer Squad members must possess advanced stunting and tumbling skills. Cheer member must attend all practices and events as scheduled. The team practices regularly throughout the school year to work on skills and to prepare for performances.

Point Park Dance Team

The Point Park Dance Team is a co-ed varsity sport. The team performs at all home basketball games and competes in the NAIA as well as other collegiate dance competitions. Dance Team members must demonstrate a mastery of advanced dance skills and coordination. Dance Team members must attend all practices and events as scheduled. The team practices regularly throughout the school year to work on skills, choreography and to prepare for performances.

A Note from the Coaches

Our program is focused on developing our athletes with the elite skills of competitive cheerleading and dance with an emphasis on participation, teamwork, safety and responsibility. We host an environment where our athletes will learn the important values of friendship, trust, discipline and leadership. While performing at the highest level, we encourage our athletes to respect their peers, coaches and each other. Our athletes are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship and to represent the University in a professional manner. Our coaches strive to enhance each athletes' experience by teaching physical and interpersonal skills that the athletes can apply to their personal, work and school endeavors. Our program is built on a solid foundation that will provide student athletes with direction and inspiration to become exceptional leaders and ambassadors of the Point Park Community.
