Point Park's Leyva named KIAC Baseball Player of the Week (March 25-31)

PITTSBURGH – Point Park University senior first baseman Marlon Leyva was named the KIAC Baseball Player of the Week for hitting .571 in the Pioneers’ 4-0 week from March 25-31.
The Miami, Fla., native had eight hits in 14 at bats and also drew three walks as the Pioneers (16-11) swept KIAC opponent Berea (Ky.) College in a four-game series.
Leyva’s big week included a slugging percentage of .716 with two doubles, eight RBIs and six runs. He hit safely in all four games of the series, which was an offensive explosion for Point Park. The Pioneers outscored Berea, 47-14, in the four games.
Leyva was 4 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs in a 12-2 win to start the series. He also had a multi-hit game when we was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs in a 20-4 victory to end the weekend.
He has started all 27 games at first base and is hitting .250 with six doubles, one home run and 17 RBIs. Leyva is second on the team with 22 runs and is third in doubles and RBIs.
