KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Point Park University baseball junior third baseman Jordan Crowell was named to the 2014 NAIA Baseball Preseason All-American Team as selected by the NAIA Baseball Coaches Association All-American Committee on Monday (Nov. 4, 2013).
Crowell, a native of Milford, Ohio, was one of 17 players named to the preseason All-American team and one of five infielders to make the list. Crowell was an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American in 2013 when he led the NAIA in batting average at .441 (63 for 143) as a sophomore.
Crowell was the KIAC Player of the Year and Point Park Team MVP last year, his first season with the Pioneers (39-16, 14-6 KIAC) after transferring from the University of Northwestern Ohio. Crowell had 40 RBIs, a slugging percentage of .531 and an on-base percentage of .520 in 2013.
He is one of five position starters returning for Point Park, which led the NAIA in team batting average last year at .341, made the NAIA national tournament for the second year in a row and won the KIAC Tournament. Point Park ended 2013 ranked No. 23 in the NAIA Top 25 Poll.
If Crowell were to turn his preseason All-American nod into similar honors at the end of the 2014 season, he would be Point Park's first NAIA All-American since Don Kelly was a first-team shortstop in 2001.
