WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- No. 19 Point Park University baseball went an impressive 3-0 on Friday, its final day its spring trip to Florida for the RussMatt Central Invitational. The Pioneers (9-6) went 8-2 on the week in Florida, including a doubleheader sweep of NCAA Division II Findlay (Ohio), 11-6 and 5-1, and a 3-0 win over NAIA Viterbo (Wis.) in a nine-inning game Friday.

The opening win over Findlay (2-6) came in 14 innings. Shortstop Michael DeJesus, from Miami, Fla., hit a three-run homer in the top of the 14th to make the score 9-6, and the Pioneers added on two more before the inning was through.

Point Park's top four starting pitchers all got work on Friday, which helped because Thursday's games were rained out when the Pioneers were back to the top of their rotation.

Manny Perdomo got the Game 1 start versus Findlay and shook off three runs in the top of the first to keep the Pioneers in the game as the offense came alive. Nathan Sphon, another starting pitcher, came on in relief to finish off the 14-inning victory.

The star of Game 2 was winning pitcher Isaiah Marsh, a senior right-hander from Clear Brook, Va. He went all seven innings to get the complete-game win, and he held Findlay scoreless the first six innings.

The good starting pitching continued in the third game of the day versus Viterbo as sophomore Alex Mateo, from Miami, Fla., pitched a one-hit shutout for the 3-0 win in a complete game. Mateo struck out 10 and walked just one. That game was added to the schedule to make up for the rainouts from Thursday.

After going 8-2 on the Florida trip, Point Park will take its 9-6 record into its schedule home opener Tuesday, March 11 versus Clarion at 1 p.m. (DH), weather permitting. The Pioneers will then visit Shawnee State on Wednesday, March 12 before opening KIAC play March 14-15 at Indiana Southeast for a four-game series.
