PITTSBURGH -- The KIAC Preseason Coaches' Polls for spring sports were released this week (Feb. 5) by the conference office, and Point Park University was picked to finish first or second in each of its sports.

Point Park was picked as the KIAC preseason favorite in baseball and men's golf and was picked to finish second in softball and women's golf. The KIAC Preseason Coaches' Polls were based on voting by conference coaches within those sports.

The following is a breakdown of the KIAC Preseason Coaches' Polls for the spring 2014 sports season;

BASEBALL:
Point Park was picked No. 1 in the KIAC Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll released Feb. 5. The Pioneers, who were 39-16 overall and 14-6 KIAC last year, got five of six first-place votes and 35 points in the voting. Point Park is just ahead of Indiana Southeast (28-26, 13-6 in 2013), which was picked second with one first-place vote and 31 points.

Point Park won the KIAC regular season and tournament titles last season, their first year in the conference. The Pioneers took the season series over Indiana Southeast, four games to two, including wins in the KIAC Tournament semifinals and finals.

"We appreciate everyone's respect of our program," said Pioneers head coach Loren Torres. "We have to continue to take the necessary strides to make the prediction a fact between the lines."

Point Park is ranked No. 19 in the 2014 NAIA Baseball Preseason Top 25 Coaches' Poll (Nov. 12) and has been to the NAIA national tournament the last two years. Point Park has 5 of 9 positions starters and 3 of 4 starting pitchers returning from last year. The Pioneers begin the season Feb. 15 at Virginia Intermont, and head coach Loren Torres is in his fifth year at the school.

The rest of the KIAC Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll has Brescia (Ky.) third with 21 points, Asbury (Ky.) fourth with 17 points, Berea (Ky.) fifth with 12 points and Alice Lloyd (Ky.) sixth with 10 points.
