Sphon named Daktronics-NAIA Baseball Scholar-Athlete for Point Park

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University senior pitcher Nate Sphon has been named a Daktronics-NAIA Baseball Scholar-Athlete for the 2015 season. To receive the award, baseball players must be a junior or senior with a grade-point average of 3.5 or above.
Sphon, from Greensburg, Pa., led the Point Park baseball team with a 3.85 GPA as a sports, arts and entertainment management major. He graduated in May 2015 as the fifth-ranked pitcher on the Pioneers' all-time career wins list with a record of 22-12 over four years.
As the ace of the Pioneers' staff this past year, he was 7-3 with a 2.55 ERA and a .261 opponent's batting average. Sphon earned KIAC All-Conference First Team honors and was the pitcher on the All-KIAC Gold Glove Team.
