PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University baseball is back where it has spent much of the last four years -- in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The Pioneers are ranked No. 22 in the preseason rankings that were released by the NAIA national office on Tuesday (Nov. 11).
The Pioneers return to the NAIA Top 25 after being in the 'others receiving votes' section of the final rankings of the 2014 season. Point Park was 40-18 last year and made an appearance in the NAIA national tournament for the third year in a row.
Point Park is the two-time defending KIAC Tournament champion and has won four straight conference regular season titles dating back to the AMC in 2011 and 2012. The Pioneers have been ranked in the NAIA Top 25 all but a few weeks since 2011.
First NAIA Top 25 poll of the regular season will be announced on March 10, 2015. Point Park is scheduled to play its 2015 season openers Feb. 21-22 with a four-game series at Milligan (Tenn.) and will have 14 games under its belt before the next rankings are released.
The Pioneers, under sixth-year head coach Loren Torres, registered the eighth 40-win season in program history last year. Point Park returns 5 of 9 starters in its batting order and 2 of 5 starting pitchers.
