PITTSBURGH -- With his six shut-out innings of two-hit ball last Saturday, April 13 versus Indiana Southeast, Point Park University junior right-hander Manny Perdomo was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week (April 8-14).
Perdomo allowed only two hits over his six strong innings in a 17-1 win over Indiana Southeast. The Miami, Fla., native who is in his second year at Point Park since transferring from NAIA St. Thomas (Fla.) University, struck out five in the important win.
The victory allowed Point Park to rebound from a 7-4 loss earlier in the day to open the series. The Pioneers split the series, 2-2, and got the two wins they needed to clinch the KIAC Regular Season title with a 14-6 conference record, which is 1.5 games ahead of second-place IU Southeast (12-7 KIAC).
For the year, Perdomo is 4-2 with a 2.21 ERA in seven starts. He has pitched 40.2 innings with a team-high 37 strikeouts, and opponents are hitting just .235 off of him.
At the team award ceremony following its Senior Day games on April 16, Perdomo was named by the Point Park coaching staff as the team's Pitcher of the Year for 2013.
His next start will be Thursday at Wheeling Jesuit, where the Pioneers are scheduled to throw their top two pitchers for their final starts before the KIAC Baseball Tournament April 24-27 at IU Southeast.
