NAIA Baseball Scholar-Athletes include Point Park's Pfeuffer, Palmer and Peluso

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University's Bryce Pfeuffer, Mike Palmer and Derek Peluso were among the 228 student-athletes named 2011 NAIA Baseball Scholar-Athletes, announced the NAIA office on Thursday. The Point Park trio met the qualifications, which call for a GPA of at least 3.5 for juniors and seniors.

Pfeuffer, a senior infielder from Robinson Twp., Pa., is an NAIA Scholar-Athlete for the second year in a row while Palmer and Peluso, a pair of junior right-handed pitchers, received the honor for the first time. Palmer in from Scott Township, Pa., and Peluso is from Zelienople, Pa.

Pfeuffer, a graduate of Montour High School, has the highest GPA on the team at 3.78. The elementary education major was All-AMC honorable mention at second base after hitting .315 with 37 RBIs. Pfeuffer, who led the team with 13 doubles, was a four-year starter and an All-AMC first-teamer as a junior.

Peluso, a graduate of Seneca Valley High School, has a 3.53 GPA in economics and finance. An All-AMC honorable mention selection, the junior right-handed pitcher was the ace of the Point Park staff this year. Peluso was 7-1 with a 3.42 ERA in 60.1 innings pitched. He struck out 43 and walked 24.

Palmer, a graduate of Chartiers Valley High School, owns a 3.50 GPA in business management. The junior right-hander made five appearances and started two games in his third year on the staff. He was 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA. Palmer's major specializes in international business.
