Point Park pounds Calumet College of St. Joe's twice, improves to 10-1 overall

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Point Park University baseball team improved to 10-1 on the year and extended its winning streak to seven games by pounding Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN) two times on Monday by scores of 13-0 and 13-3.

The games were on the campus of Southeaster University in Lakeland, Fla., and were apart of the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational, which Point Park is at through March 9.

The Pioneers (10-1) got complete-game pitching performances from Manny Perdomo (Game 1) and Josh Brooks (Game 2). Offensively, Point Park had some big hits mixed around plenty of walks and errors by Calumet College of St. Joseph (2-2).

In the first game, Perdomo tossed a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and no walks. Two of the four hits he gave up were in the seventh inning. The sophomore from Hialeah, Fla, who transferred this year from St. Thomas (FL) University is 2-0 with with a pair of complete games.

Tom Pasinski, Marlon Leyva and Dillon Sauers eached had two hits for the Pioneers. Sauers drove in two runs and scored twice. Leyva and Mike Ganley each scored three times, and Ganley drew three walks. Rob Novia picked up three RBIs and scored twice.

In the second game, Brooks went all six innings to get the win. He struck out eight walked one, and the six hits that he gave up featured two separate innings with three hits each. Brooks is a junior right-hander from Phoenix, Ariz., and a transfer from NAIA Ottawa (Kan.) University. He is 2-0 on the year.

Point Park jumped out to an early lead thanks to seven runs on two hits in the second inning. The Pioneers took advantage of five walks in the inning. Jonthan Tasis delivered a three-run double, and Sauers produced a two-run double for the only hits of the inning.

Picking up two hits each for Point Park were Tasis (2-4), Steve Dujka (2-2), Don McDuffee (2-3) and Phil Navatsyk (2-3). Dujka scored twice and doubled.

Point Park continues is play at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational with a doubleheader versus Olivet Nazarene (IL) Tuesday at 10 a.m.
