PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University has swept the KIAC Baseball Player & Pitcher of the Week awards for March 2-8 as center fielder Demetrius Moorer and left-handed pitcher Jason Kim took home the honors as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Moorer is a junior center fielder from Homestead, Fla., and a transfer from Eastern Kentucky University. The leadoff hitter for the No. 22-ranked Pioneers (9-1), Moorer hit .350 (7 for 20) and was 6 for 6 in stolen bases in six games last week. He also added an outfield assist on defense.

For the year, Moorer is hitting .360 (9 for 26) with eight runs and a perfect 8 for 8 on stolen bases in eight games. He has two doubles, one triple and four RBIs on the year as the catalyst for the Point Park offense.

Kim, a junior from La Crescenta, Calif., tossed a three-hit shutout to beat Benedictine-Springfield (Ill.), 1-0, March 5. He struck out three, walked none and needed only 63 pitches -- all fastballs -- to blank the Bulldogs.

Kim, a transfer from NAIA Biola (Calif.), started twice during Point Park's spring break trip to Florida last week, and both starts were shutouts of Benedictine. He also shut out the Bulldogs, 3-0, on March 1 with five strikeouts and no walks.

For the year, Kim is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 14 innings. He has struck out eight, walked none and opponents are hitting .104 (5 for 48) against him. The two starts in Florida were not a part of the same week in terms of the KIAC weekly awards since the week runs Monday through Sunday in that regard.

Point Park returns to action March 11 at No. 19 Davenport (Mich.) for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Pioneers will also play Madonna (Mich.) at Davenport March 12 as part of that trip to Michigan.
