PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University's Jason Kim was named the KIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week April 13-19 for his two-hit shutout of IU Southeast on April 18. The victory, which included eight strikeouts compared to just two walks, clinched the KIAC regular season title for the No. 24-ranked Pioneers (32-11, 16-4 KIAC).
For his latest gem, the junior lefty from LaCrescenta, Calif., picked up his third KIAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week honor and his second one in as many weeks. The shutout of IU Southeast was a 3-0 win in seven innings. It was his fifth complete game in eight starts. Kim retired 13 batters in a row in the middle innings and then finished off the victory for the KIAC title.
In the span winning conference pitcher of the week the last two weeks, Kim is 3-0 with a 0.42 ERA, 10 hits, two runs, one earned run, three walks and 20 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. That encompasses three complete-game victories over Rio Grande, IU Southeast and Brescia, the next three teams in the KIAC standings after first-place Point Park.
For the season, Kim is 7-1 with a 2.23 ERA in 48.1 innings. He has struck out 33 and walked seven, and opponents are hitting .221 off of him. His next scheduled start is part of Point Park's four-game home series versus Talladega (Ala.) April 23-24.
