Mrkonja named KIAC Baseball Player of the Week for No. 21 Point Park

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University sophomore right fielder Stefan Mrkonja was named on Tuesday as the KIAC Baseball Player of the Week for March 30-April 5.

Mrkonja picked up the honor by hitting .500 (7 for 14) in four games last week as Point Park went a perfect 4-0 over the seven-day period. He collected a double, a home run and four RBIs and scored seven runs.

A native of Aliquippa, Pa., and graduate of Hopewell High School, Mrkonja led the Pioneers to two victories at Ohio Christian on Tuesday and two wins at Rio Grande on Saturday.

Mrkonja hit safely in all four games and posted two multi-hit games. He was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs in a 14-3 win over Ohio Christian. Another highlight was 3 for 3 with two runs in a 3-1 win at Rio Grande.

The No. 3 hitter in the Pioneers lineup, Mrkonja is hitting .310 (31 for 100) with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 26 RBIs on the year. He has started 29 of 31 games.
