Point Park's Loren Torres tabbed NAIA Regional Coach of the Year by ABCA

PITTSBURGH – Point Park University baseball head coach Loren Torres was named a Diamond/ABCA NAIA Regional Coach of the Year with the announcement by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Tuesday (July 24, 2012).

Torres, who has been the head coach of the Pioneers the last three years, was one of 10 NAIA Regional Coaches of the Year named by the ABCA and title sponsor Diamond. For the complete list of honorees, visit www.ABCA.org

Torres and the other regional awardees will be recognized at the ABCA Hall of Fame/Coach of the Year Banquet on January 4, 2013 at the Chicago Regency Hotel. The banquet is part of the ABCA Convention, which will be held Jan. 3-6, 2013 in Chicago, Ill. Tickets to the banquet are $15 each and are available through pre-registration.

Torres led the Pioneers to a 53-11 overall record and a fifth-place finish at the NAIA World Series in 2012. The Pioneers set a school record for victories and finished the year ranked No. 6 in the Final NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Point Park reached the NAIA World Series for the 11th time, a figure that ranks tied for fourth nationally.
