Point Park's Torres named KIAC Men's XC Runner of the Week for fifth time

Oct. 28, 2014 at 11:35 p.m. ET

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University freshman Eric Torres has been named the KIAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the fifth time this season, announced the KIAC office on Monday (Oct. 27, 2014).

Torres, from Robstown, Texas, has won the award in five of the six weeks that he has competed in a race this season. His latest weekly honor comes after racing to a time of 26:02 at the NCAA Division II Lock Haven meet this past Saturday, which was just one second from tying the Point Park men's 8K record of 26:01 (Andrew Rowland, 2010).

Torres' season- and career-best time at Lock Haven was also the best time by any KIAC runner in an 8K this year. The only week that Torres did not win the KIAC Runner of the Week, he had a time of 26:17 at Wilmington, which was just behind Rio Grande's Dallas Guy at 26:14 at the same meet.

Lock Haven was the final regular-season race for Torres and the Pioneers, who will host the KIAC Championship Meet Nov. 8 at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh. The men's 8K begins at 2:30 p.m. and is a national qualifier for the NAIA National Championship Meet Nov. 22 in Lawrence, Kan.
