NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Point Park University men's cross country team competed in what amounted to a public workout on Saturday at the Walsh University meet. The Pioneers finished third of three teams behind NCAA DII schools Walsh and Malone.
The race was a 5K, which is much shorter than the 8K that men's meets usually entail. The Pioneers used the event as a speed workout, and it was the last preparation prior to next week's KIAC Championship Meet Nov. 3 at IU East.
"It was a good speed workout," said Pioneers head coach Jim Irvin. "There was a steady rain, and it was cold. We had the guys run different paces, so the times don't translate over to the 8K-times."
"The men's team has a good shot to do well next week. Dylan (Grunn) is right where he needs to be, and anyone who runs a time in the low 28s should have a great chance individually."
Point Park's best individual runner, senior Dylan Grunn, ran the 5K in 16:34 to take 15th place in the 51-runner field. Zane Kravec (17:46) and Jon Rohlf (18:07) were other top finishers for the Pioneers. Point Park's first and seventh runners finished just 2 minutes and 1 second apart.
