Point Park men's cross country takes 13th of 27 teams at CMU, Rowland 39th of 234

PITTSBURGH -- The Point Park University men's cross country team had a nice showing by placing 13th of 27 teams Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational in Schenley Park.

Andrew Rowland, a junior from Pittsburgh, led the Pioneers by placing 39th of 234 runners in the 8K.
Point Park had 379 points, and despite missing two key runners, the Pioneers were 52 points outside the top 10. American Mideast Conference member Roberts Wesleyan was 10th with 327 points. The team champion was Wayne State with 49 points.
Junior Reuben Rono, from Kenya, finished the race in 28:22 for 88th place. Sophomore Dylan Grunn, a native of Honesdale, Pa., placed 98th and gave the Pioneers three runners under 29 minutes with a time of 28:59.
Completing Point Park's team effort were Chris Kennedy (30:40), Jonathan Rohlf (31:02), Ian McIntosh (32:35) and Jared Ferree (35:54).
Andrew Witchey and Joe DeWitt missed the race due to academic obligations.
Point Park is off next weekend and travels to its first AMC meet of the year, the Walsh Invitaitonal, on Oct. 23. The Pioneers finish up the regular season at the AMC Championship meet two weeks later (Nov. 6) at Houghton.
