Sept. 3, 2011
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Point Park University men's cross country team opened its season Saturday at the Fisher Invitational hosted by Westminster College, and the Pioneers had to battle sweltering heat and humidity. Point Park ended up placing 11th of 14 teams.
The temperature was 91 degrees and the humidity was 90% at the 11 a.m. start time, which contributed to much slower times across the board. Bill Jones of Franciscan repeated as individual champion, and his time of 27:00 was two minutes slower than last year.
Dylan Grunn (pictured) was the first finisher for Point Park, and the junior from Honesdale, Pa., placed 24th with a time of 30 minutes, three seconds. The Pioneers' top runner, senior Andrew Rowland, has been battling injury of late, and his time of 31:27 was good for 61st place.
Freshman Connor Mulvaney, a freshman from Coraopolis, Pa., finished in 32:08. Jon Rohlf (32:41) and Chris Kennedy (33:44) completed Point Park's top five performers.
