WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Point Park University men's cross country team opened the 2013 season Saturday (Sept. 14) at the Waynesburg Invitational and placed fourth behind the performance of top runner Connor Mulvaney.
Mulvaney, a junior from Moon Twp., Pa., ran a personal-best time of 28 minutes, 42 seconds in the 8K race to place 14th individually. But Mulvaney was the only Pioneers runner to crack the 30-minute mark as the team is coming off a long preseason with Saturday their first race competition.
"Connor ran rally well with PR time, but the rest of the team was dealing with some tired legs," said Point Park coach Jim Irvin. "We logged a lot of miles in the preseason, and this was their first time in a race this year."
Sophomore Zane Kravec came in 33rd place with a time of 30:14, and fellow sophomore Eric Engel was 36th at 30:23. Jon Rohlf (31:21), Ian McIntosh (31;25) and Luke Shannon (32:33) were other top runners for the Pioneers.
