Point Park men's cross country competes at Unaffiliated Meet in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Point Park men's cross country team competed Saturday at the Unaffiliated Group Meet in St. Louis, Mo., and finished 11th of 13 teams in the field comprised of schools from the American Mideast, American Midwest and the TransSouth conferences.
The meet was made necessary due to the fact that all three of those leagues came up short of the six required schools for an automatic bid to the NAIA national championship. As it was, team champion Park University of Parkville, Mo. earned a bid to nationals as the Unaffiliated Group Meet winner.
Individual runners also had a chance to qualify for nationals with the criteria being placement in the top 15 and being in the top five of individuals not on qualifying teams.
Point Park's top performer was Dylan Grunn (pictured), who came in 24th place with a time of 27:45. That time was good for a career best, and it eclipsed his previous-best time by 11 seconds. The mark for qualifying for nationals was in the 26-minute range.
Andrew Rowland came in 51st place in the field of 101 runners, and his time of 29:29 was well of his usual times when healthy. Rowland, a senior, battled injuries this year, and he had a time of 26:45 at last year's conference meet.
Another senior running his final race was Reuben Rono, who came in 60th at 29:55. Freshman Conor Mulvaney was 57th at 29:42.
