Grunn and Rono continue to pace Point Park men's cross country
Sept. 19, 2009
ERIE, Pa. - For the third time in as many meets, Dylan Grunn and Reuben Rono paced the Point Park men's cross country team Saturday. Grunn and Rono finished 31st and 32nd, respectively, to lead the Pioneers to a ninth-place finish out of 17 teams at the Penn State-Behrend Invitational Saturday.
Grunn posted a time of 28 minutes, 52 seconds, and Rono was right behind at 28 minutes, 53 seconds. The duo gave Point Park two runners with a time under 29 minutes, something that had never been done in school history.
Junior Jared Ferree (White Oak/Faith Christian) was the third Point Park men's runner to finish in 30:42. Freshman Chris Kennedy (Columbiaville, Mich./Lake Ville) improved his previous best time by 45 seconds to post a time of 30:48.
Like Ferree, Andrew Witchey (Lower Burrell/St. Joseph) was less than 100 percent due to an injury, and he had a time of 32:41.
Point Park was originally scheduled to visit the St. Vincent Invitational Saturday, but the Pioneers had to withdraw from that competition due to the Pittsburgh Summit. Point Park will close its campus from Sept. 23-36 due to the Summit, which will be held in Pittsburgh from Sept. 24-25.
No athletic competitions will be held while the university is closed.
