PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University senior guard Jimmy Taylor has been named to the Capital One (R) Academic All-District Men's Basketball College Division First Team as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday (Jan. 31, 2013).

Taylor, a 6-1 guard from Pittsburgh, Pa., and Keystone Oaks High School, has a 3.30 GPA in Business Management. Taylor is fourth on the Point Park team with 11.1 ppg and is second on the Pioneers with 37 3-pointers made. He has started nine of 19 games for the Pioneers (11-8, 5-6 KIAC).

The Capital One (R) Academic All-District teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America to "recognize the nation's best student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom," according to the CoSIDA release.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 GPA and be voted onto the team by members of CoSIDA. All Capital One (R) Academic All-District First Team honorees will have their names advance to the ballot for the Capital One (R) Academic All-American teams, which will be voted on by CoSIDA later this basketball season.

Taylor, who is in his second year at Point Park after being an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American at CCAC-Allegheny, shoots 44 percent from the field, 33 percent from 3-point range (37 for 114) and 89.7 percent from the foul line (35 for 39).

Taylor has started the last eight games, and the Pioneers are 6-2 in the stretch entering tonight's game at Cincinnati Christian (Feb. 1, 6 pm). Taylor has upped his season averages to 13.3 ppg and 4.4 apg during that time, which included victories in the first five games he started.
