Basketball coaches to support 'Suits & Sneakers' during Saturday's games
Jan. 28, 2010
PITTSBURGH - The coaches involved in Saturday's American Mideast Conference basketball games between Point Park and Cedarville will be supporting Coaches vs. Cancer ® Suits & Sneakers awareness weekend, an initiative organized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the American Cancer Society.
Point Park will host Cedarville for an AMC doubleheader Saturday at CCAC South Gymnasium. The women's game starts at 2 p.m. followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
The Point Park and Cedarville coaches will be participating in the event by wearing sneakers instead of their usual dress shoes. The NABC and the American Cancer Society are encouraging all basketball coaches across the country to join in the program in games played this weekend, Jan. 29-31, as part of Coaches vs. Cancer ® Suits & Sneakers awareness weekend.
By participating, the coaches are demonstrating their support of the American Cancer Society's fight to save lives from cancer. Since the program's inception in 1993, high school and college basketball coaches across the United States have joined the team to support the Society's efforts to save lives and create a world with more birthdays.
Saturday's demonstration hopes to remind people to stay well by empowering them to avoid cancer or find it in the early stages.
